  • How to prepare my pet for surgery?
    Adults Cats and Dogs: No food after midnight the night before surgery. Do not withhold water from you pets. Kitten and Puppies under 4 months of age: Feed regular breakfast around 7am, then pick up food. Do not withhold water. Rabbits: No fasting is reruired because rabbits do not vomit and withholding food can cause medical problems. Rabbits onwers should bring along some fresh greens or rabbit's favortive food to be fed throughtout the day while in the chinic.


  • How to care for my pet after surgery?
    When you get home, offer your pet a small amount of food and water. Do not allow your pet to gorge on a large amount too quickly. If your pet is still thirsty, offer small amounts frequently. Do not be alarmed if your pet has little appetite the first evening. Do not be alarmed if you pet vomits the first evening. Simply pick up the food and water and offer a small amount again in a couple hours. Your pet will still be under the effects of sedation when you get home. Do not allow dogs to navigate stairs without supervision. Even if your dog looks steady; he can still fall over. Cats should be confined to a small room overnight to avoid jumping and falling injuries. Do not allow your pet to lick or scratch the incision. Excessive licking may cause the incision to come open or become infected. An E-collar may be required to prevent this behavior. Check the incision daily, some swelling and redness is normal as the tissue heals. Please call us if the swelling is severe or if there is drainage. Keep pets indoor for 7 days to allow the incision to heal. Discourage running, jumping, and rough play. Leash walk dogs.
